Richmond Hill Radiology has been serving the community's imaging needs for over 50 years. As one of the oldest radiology practices in Queens, we are committed to being here for you today, tomorrow, and far into the future.
Let's take a little trip through history. Started by Dr. Carl Steckler, this radiology practice first opened its doors to patients in 1955. At that time radiology consisted of only basic x-ray and fluoroscopy imaging. In 1970, Dr. Michael Tafreshi took over the practice and called it Richmond Hill Radiology, the name we still use today. The 1970's saw the advent of ultrasound technology and the 1980's saw the advent of CT scan technology. Richmond Hill Radiology kept in step with these advances and added ultrasound and CT imaging services. In 2003 Dr. Wen Y. Wang took over the helm of the practice and continues to be the chief radiologist and medical director of Richmond Hill Radiology. A strong proponent of leveraging technology to improve patient care, Dr. Wang brought many new services and systems to the practice. We installed a GE DEXA machine to offer bone density studies. We added a computer-aided detection (CAD) system for mammography to improve mammo studies. By installing a Kodak CR (computed radiography) we converted our x-ray and fluoroscopy studies to digital. And to realize the full potential of digital imaging, we installed a new PACS and RIS system. Patient images, reports, and records are all now stored digitally.
To round out our services we recently added a GE dual-head nuclear camera to offer nuclear medicine and nuclear cardiology studies. Going beyond standard radiology imaging services, we now offer breast core biopsies and FNA (fine needle aspiration) biopsies as well.
Richmond Hill Radiology has been a fixture on Myrtle Avenue in Richmond Hill for over 50 years. The practice is located in a house dating from around the turn of the century. Although the structure has undergone numerous upgrades and renovations over the years, as has the surrounding neighborhood, it is still facinating to take a look back at Richmond Hill from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Here are some historical images culled from the local historical society archives.
